"Arrêté lá"
Toussaint Louverture in Santo Domingo, 1801.
Review of a witness.
directed by Dona Francisca Value Valerio (Santo Domingo) to Priest Dr. Don Francisco Gonzalez and Carrasco, who lives in Santiago de Cuba (1).
-----
E n first that by the mercy of God, and by dint of many miracles of the Almighty God, we escaped with life, as evinced for reasons which I will refer.
On January 3 (1801) entered the raised Toussaint (Toussaint Louverture / note streaks) in our city (Santo Domingo / NDV), which only failed to receive under the Palio, because as I understand, in our monarch he had not been done more. (2).
Day 5 was a magazine on the square where the flag was left to the Fixed (Dominican battalion / NDV), deposited it in the cathedral was before, and declared Colonial (declared Fixed under French colonial rule / ndv).
The Courts imposed on 7 (dissolved in 1795 when the Treaty of Basel / NDV), and this feature invited all communities, and the clergy, music, and all subjects seen in this city.
On 9 closed doors of the Church, and also removed the clappers (metal part shaped pear / ndv) to the bells, because the commander of the Dragoons (cavalry Toussaint / ndv) injured (by error ndv) a soldier, who ran blood, but little, symbol or significance of what had happened.
Day 10 musicians became close to the exit Sea Prince (Port-au-Prince / NDV), and this gave them the Toussaint raised only $ 200 for their room (for expenses, etc. / NDV), which more than it had already given five Portuguese (3) and ofrecídoles great pay, and make them official, for which reason they marched all very happy, except for Gonzalo Levanto and (Braulio) Galvan, who hid: but the woman in Levanto and the mother of Gawain, suffered five days of imprisonment many threats, that if they did not seem (appear / NDV), which took them (in Haiti), but was released.
Day 13 were closed in the afternoon the gates of the city, with orders to anyone to leave, and issued an edict (call / ndv) which lasted until eight o'clock at night, so that the next day appeared all alike in the Plaza de Armas (now Columbus Park / ndv), men and women. Only women who escaped were raising.
was Day 14 of this magazine, which culled the young men who most pleased him, to add to his evil Regiment, and some of the household, and even four of the free black, took them to work Bocanigua (wit / NDV), of whom came the Portuguese who had a long (money to bribe / ndv) because all were directed to theft.
On 20 opened the doors of the Church, because many statements were taken, according to the Physician, was that it was not to do evil, only to compose a row with sword and accustomed them (lining the row having a sword at his side of the people / NDV), are skewed the sword (there were some injuries Saber / ndv). Toussaint did on that day a feast, attended by all communities, many chimes in all the churches and parishes, asking the Divine Majesty to give him wisdom in all things, as if God were protective of rogues, and night out musicians by the sea destination.
On September 23, at eleven o'clock, Fixed relieved, and those who were honest, and all locked together in the barracks, he put his tricolor flag (flag of France / NDV), and day 25 made them go as criminals, with a company before and behind, and dragons on the sides, by way of the South (South / ndv). The Fixed ammo, and they well prepared (-armed / ndv). I leave you to consider the cries and shouts of 'relatives, and also the public.
The Toussaint said or rather, Region of Hell, a sorrel horse that nobody could give him scope, was to Puerta del Conde, stopping at the intersections is not escaped some, but they (the battalion Fixed / ndv) with the mirror of woman Gonzalo (Gonzalo Levanto, the musician whose wife escaped and arrested / NDV), is not deserted but none of Bani in front, and that very few of them so we have no reason true, only if the musicians, who escaped all the Prince, although he resisted.
the 29th, before sunrise, Toussaint went with his musicians, and trumpets, along the path of Sud These are the occurrences that took place in January. (4)
On February 1 relieved Polo (Paul Louverture, brother of Toussaint / ndv) (5) the guards of us in the morning, with the voice that would clothe, but it was to take the National (Creole / ndv) remaining, leaving them highly useless (unarmed / ndv) for Andarmios companies.
On day 2, at three in the afternoon, they spotted two frigates of the White Republic (French frigates / ndv) (6).
Day 3 in the morning, threw eight it a shot, and then another, asking for practical (Expert knows the port / ndv) and send Polo fearing its people, sent to Don Juan Baron. Day 4 Two officers jumped ashore with Don Juan Baron and spoke with General Polo, and Colonel Juan Felipe, (7) saying that came to take possession in the course they had taken in the name of the Republic (French / NDV), which Bonaparte (Napoleon / ndv) gave them freedom, and honor employees but not the control.
latter settled them very badly. He suggested writing to Toussaint to see your response. They left post, the Jew Isaac and John Philip, Commander of Andarmios, brother of the wife of Polo.
Day 5 was in force (current strength Ozama / ndv) review the Citoyenes or rather, blacks, and those of Azua and Seibo, and this capital had added to his troops for ammunition. In short, they believed put on defense, because all their preparations as denoted, as it was loading powder and ball for the strengths, both inside and outside the city.
Day 8 took one side, no one spoke on the subject, they would deliver when it was time, Toussaint and his brother had bought, let alone had inherited. This was the substance of the side, but the same night, having known their intentions, determined the general and called at the residents of this land, and land with their white French people on the rocks, part of the Sabana. Had his lantern on the side of the stern, in a boat, and was part of what the English were the rocks below, to get the signs, but the sea was so rough, accordingly, could not come but a boat with four men, who commuted to account for the following night, which saw the problem, but Don Juan Baron, the commander of the Plaza, and the Commander of Artillery, looking lost, because the artillery La Force were nailed, and the Gate of savanna, determined to advance to the San Gil, with all our people, armed with some that were battened, the assumption that the Mayor of La Plaza had gone from Ronda and had but one cartridge, but was so unhappy that our three subjects of the ground gave me the blow to Colonel John Philip, and at the same moment, not only provided them with ammunition, but reinforcements sent to all Posts between two and three o'clock.
Indeed, advanced, and blacks, the first voice of "Who goes there!", Seeing that he answered them, began to fire from above the Great Gate to the fort of San Gil, but ours, no weapons other than the said, moved from inside the fire, and took that hard, just a loss of five men, and are as follows: commander Artillery Juan Chiquito, Juan Bonifacio, Juan de la Encarnación, Pedro Pimentel, one of Bani.
Of 20 black, more or less, that were in the fort (San Gil / ndv) escaped only three, and that very badly treated, because they threw rocks, where I picked up was that strong with fourteen men who were inside, until about five o'clock, seeing that blacks were many and vessels could not come to favor them, put a gun to twenty-four to the door, and he came a reinforcement of 30 blacks, gave fire, and not killed, it was crazy.
At that had time to escape the Sabana. At that time blacks marched through the city, some to Jaina, and other people of San Carlos, where many fatalities occurred, because Francisco Ravelo, who was an officer of National, Juan Felipe because he saw a blood stain on pants, was stripped of the badges, and by removing the jacket, because it was ordered removed, the Juan Felipe said he put the sword through his chest which pierced his heart, and their feet fell dead, and Luis Catalina at the same moment his eyes put out alive, and it ended up killing bayonets, in terms already called for by the love of God that no more tormented.
On the same day killed Gollo Berroa, (8) in the Village (San Carlos / ndv) so that the Village was where most fatalities occurred: there was looting, both in silver and in garments. They have been left by doors. The closed doors were knocked down. But the Islanders (the sancarleños descendants of emigrants from the islands Canrias / NDV) have been courageous, because they also opened fire on blacks, who also killed a sergeant and two citoyenes. The citoyenes more than those three I tell you who was killed in San Carlos, which were at night through the streets, carried Force (Fort Ozama / ndv) and taking their lives, as they did with Ignacio Sanchez that left him with an ax head, then threw him to the rocks. To not give them our grave, the dogs were the masters of our bodies.
trampled on the same day Don Antonio de Coca, who was ill at home and removed his watch and took him to La Force, and today was present to Mr. Gonzalez, (9) the canon, and asked him Please join him, as he was troubled, and his servants were to point at the General Polo (Paul Louverture / NDV), and told him what happened, and when that was the general and released him, because that was one of the miracles that God worked in our favor, being Polo from us, and in such compliance, which more than make many promises, as he was twice sent by candles at churches, three quarters, so that the kindle for Mary, making novenas to Our Lady of Remedios, and the last day to make a party and evening procession (stating that Paul's wife was very Catholic / ndv). On two occasions, on of the revolution, was at the home of Lord Prados (10) is put to ask in prayer, then saw the people in great distress.
Colonel Juan Felipe (Jean Philippe Daut, Army Colonel Toussaint / NDV) was that we were against, in such conformity, three times would give orders to slaughter, but Polo and his wife is strongly insisted, and was so found Juan Felipe (front / ndv) to Polo, who at seven o'clock Polo for the People was to pacify, and Juan Felipe had given orders that (a Paul / ndv) does not allow pass. The Pole said ignored the order, and as they advanced Sentinel threw hand brake, and all devoted themselves Guardia rifles and drove back, but wasted no time: it was the Palace and bearings more Dragons (cavalry / ndv) and heavily armed even shotguns, and out the door Grande (Door of Mercy / ndv) and went to town.
Juan Felipe do not know how it came alive, because three times I got the point: two tied him, and that he killed a dragon left. This and other days were worse than the day of trial. No pen, no paper, no less voices to explain. The main fact, as was Don Juan Baron and the Plaza Mayor, fled looking for people to come to rob blacks, as I'll explain below. Seized (seized / ndv) Don José de la Vega, and Don Jose Aguirre because he went to plead for the Vega.
in churches did not fit the women who came to take refuge at night. Do not think that is weighted (exaggeration / ndv). Father Soler was appropriate to give them the room of the university to sleep because they were filled with the Church and the Third Order. Don Santiago del Valle is still sleeping in the sacristy of Carmen.
On the same day they threw a bullet to the Master Manuel Germoso, (11) in the plaza of the Church, and if this time does not come Polo, was soul in Purgatory, because in saying them Arrêté lá, which in English means stand up, and the next he threw, not a bullet, just many . In a word, they always walked around with their rifles ready, and by putting the plate (pointer / ndv) those who were.
could not hear nothing but English futre, bodyboarders coke, and threatening the few who stayed in the city, which we cut off their heads, as if they had not been verified roads and cojídoles intercepted emails, both of Santiago, as Bani Bani as the Commander, and found two that were email, as I said earlier, that one was Isaac and the other John Philip, who came to the defense, the reason I picked to be intercepted way, and took three days before via e-mail brought him a Sandar, who took his life.
Bani The Commander took the mail from there, he was in favor of whites, and opened the email, which come gushing venom against us. For this reason, cojierón John Philip, took his life, and I found between the boots in the mail saying Polo Toussaint to defend to the last, and then hurry to see kill every kind of person other than the black slaves, because he said he still opposed the free liberty, to give fire to the town of Bani and Azua, and retired to Samana, which the same order was sent to Santiago Clebor General (12) to burn to Santiago, Vega and Cotuí, and retire to Samana.
killed in Bani e fifty-two blacks, who came and went, and others who were fleeing. Azua same. Cotuí La Vega and verified the same, and this was just out of pure mercy of God, who met them in our hearts the fuck those emails, were those who came against us, since the other above shall not intercepted.
Finally, in the South and the North, which was before Spain, there was no fire, but the Guarico (Cap Haitien / NDV) is burned by blacks. Only, they say, have left seven houses. In Bayajá (Port du France / NDV) as well. What they call the village as well. Just say that Prince (Port-au-Prince / NDV) has been (without burning / NDV), but nevertheless, there was some resistance. Toussaint has retreated to a hill called Acaja, but they are besieged with eight thousand men. The number of troops (commanded by Leclerc French brother of Napoleon Bonaparte against Toussaint / ndv) who came to this island is forty thousand men, it is said, and still is said to have reached ten thousand more reinforcement (Toussaint acted without the authorization of Napoleon. That's why Ms. Francesca Valerio Toussaint called the up / ndv). (Here Ms. Valerio and refers to the year 1802/ndv). (13)
Let what the Colonies in this state, and return to our subject, who has been considerable. The same day, new clothes (arrested / ndv) between Islander (people of San Carlos / ndv) and 54 city and later ordered that all who were in City were to sign the Cabildo, which was the municipality (munícipe / ndv) Felix glove and say to all those who came said they all had blood in the eye (with shock or irritation / ndv) and were male, I I did not hear, but they say so.
On day 10 they were released, both the Islanders, including those inside (indoor / NDV), and two officers jumped out of the frigates (French / NDV), and told the general and Juan Felipe, that if the English made him a badly would a knife, but the fact of the matter is that the general who came in the Frigate, which is Clevers, (14) board said: "poor children of Santo Domingo, I nor any of us took for your life a bean" .
13 is the day they set sail two frigates in the morning, and later became a magazine Polo Plaza, and ordered everyone out with their guns, by competition he had with Juan Felipe gathered that fifty men, because he said all had gone to the English case and were fleeing through the mountains. Juan Felipe was astonished, because attended at the foot of four men. There commissioned Polo quiet, and no one moved from one place to another, that night they were killed revolution, and that if they made any attempt to cast him not his fault, that it looked like he had behaved with the English. Then they threw live the Republic and the General Polo, but consider how grief would stay when they set sail frigates (French / NDV), for (the French soldiers / NDV) cause them some respect (to those of Haiti / ndv .)
Day 5 Juan Felipe ordered three companies to the Treasury of Spain Antonio, and his company the evil Modesto, a black Don José sterling and one mulatto barber named Nicholas, because they came to give a tip that at home a dog was stationed, many people, which was uncertain.
This is referred to Spain, and the following: Antonio Herrera, the husband of Mariquita, Antonio Bello, Jose Madrigal and the butler of the hacienda, Juan Correa, and another neighbor who does not know the name. All eight tied his arms behind, and over that they put cufflinks by two to two soft spots, which could not move; boxico within walking distance of the (Haitians) killed with bayonets, in terms not I could count in his blood washed their hands and bathed his face . Antonio de los Reyes gave a big break, for he heard say, few Blacks are there! And it was near the reeds and fled.
I leave consideration the troubles that were Frances, Teresa, Manuela and Catherine the mulatto, who were actually happening on the farm, and his departure was found running from the entrance of targets because they had always feared fire. Teresa lost all the clothes and clothes, and the other the same, because only they had the medal was in the rosary.
More than the loss of their husbands, were also run over, which Teresa gave him a gun to his head, so that had a large tumor, and died after the above said the same thing with them, but they wasted no time, they Carela cojieron a path to the Sabana de Puerto Rico, killing three: Juan Martínez, Juan Guzman and Juan Carabalí, and all three are killed cruelly, and in such terms, who drank his blood along with liquor.
Those who made these latest deaths were not the citoyenes, only Martin, George Dona Juana Almonte, and many others who joined the estates, and over had drunk his blood, offal and tore the they are hung by the neck, and other Wits, killed Don Antonio Coll, Thomas Morillo, and to a mulatto who was at the hacienda of San Cristobal. The prisoners brought to the Castle of Jaina, and before reaching Samangola, a couple who called Ingenio Viejo, they killed them and took the entrails and hung them by the neck.
In the Castle of San Geranium killed a mulatto, a mulatto husband Don José Hernández. On those nights, they say, that the force (strength Ozama / ndv) killed over a dozen of those who brought the Seibo and Azua to add to his regiment, and after the cast by dead common, which gave part of the fishermen.
Day 20 in the night came a Frigate boat (the French general Kerversau / ndv) that were in Andrew, to see the latest resolution, and not released (the soldiers of Paul Louverture / ndv) the knife and spent eleven p.m. signed delivery .
On day 21, at five in the afternoon, jumped (landed / ndv) General Clevers (Kerversau / NDV) on land with its honor guard, which consisted of 60 men. Were formed of black troops in the Plaza Mayor; Polo went to Rio to meet him with his dragoons, and made it for saves. That night they sang the Te Deum Laudamus, and two nights there was light.
On 24 at night, wanted to be part of the black revolution, because some of them even said that night had to slaughter. The day of San Mateo, that had more to tell, there was a tiny storm in the dry, which left no Boxie (house, hut / ndv) that not to uncover and the sea seemed so angry that we wanted to swallow. I and everyone else, we agree that this region had demons.
The way we were willing to take the city, if he had not delivered, was this: the two frigates coming in front of San Carlos, and throw some shots so you do not level too high buildings, no rather than to draw attention, and Don Juan Baron, who came by land with 1300 men Creole Seibo, Bayaguana etc., who were dying to finish the black, four horses and all well armed in the days who missed the frigates in our view, Andrés and Los Carrales, cast arms and ammunition to Don Juan Baron. This came to saturate by Caimito, Camino de Santiago, day twenty-five, with the provision of assaulting the walls and go to slaughter. For this they had their ladders (stairs / NDV), and inside, that is, those of us, and advised, to enter into merger.
terror was so taken by the black Don Juan Barón they were not heard anything else, only that they came to kill. And if they had seen those Seibo, Llanos and others who came, they had better win this, because they were men like mad for fighting.
Blacks, although the general (French General Kerversau / ndv) had entered the city had not given the strengths, and in this case, the Count had the guns loaded with bullets and two packs of shrapnel, waiting for Don Juan, this is 27 at night, since he did not sleep with the Botafuegos (timber with flammable cloth at the tip / NDV) on, for give fire to the warehouses, and those who were not sleeping in the Force, enclosed part of night, alone with the gun inside of legs, each with two bullets, all of these attacks caused them fear. And do not think that I contradict myself, because they were handsome when they were six or eight, and his party (part of them were / ndv) two hundred, as happened in the house of Spain (Don Antonio Spain / ndv).
On day 28, last February, went with General Cleversot Polo, to see people who had Don Juan Baron, and was formed all (he appeared in military training / ndv) from the three crosses San Carlos, the Haciendas of Galat, that was before Jose Herrera, who was the barracks. It was admired (amazed / ndv) Polo to see people, and public voice as he said, send us here all his troops, we want to finish, and at about nine o'clock came Don Juan Baron in the Puerta del Conde 50 dragoons (cavalry / NDV), we formed the guard and beat him up (Polo-Paul-surrender / ndv). For one day retired to his home with his guard at the door. In the afternoon went to visit Colonel Juan Felipe (Colonel Jean Philippe Daut), who lived next to Mr Meadows, rue de La Force. The colonel said guard is formed, and as he passed corresponded with large caps, as was regular.
Blacks were astonished to see him go home alone than both wanted his head, gave his body was great, but that his heart was larger. That night they attack blacks want to do that all night not asleep, and they quieted down until you knew that Don Juan had sent all the greater part of his men, who only left with two hundred men, who went to disrupt the dogs of the mills that were in Camba Camba-up and-down, where blacks had made their bosses, one Pole, one of Plaza Mayor, and another Baron and a half, and on such terms as the baron and a half he sent to call upon Don Juan, that if he Baron was, he was a Baron and a half, and wanted to see his face.
The truth of the matter is that Don Juan brought his namesake Baron prisoner and a half was a black Manuel Perez and many others who do not want to kill. Only four died in the fire that made ours, and ordered it to stop this fire, because its purpose was cojerlos without killing them, as was verified that there were only ten or twelve, and these have cojido three general heads : Juan Pedro, Nicolas Guridi, very practical in the Maniel. In this he was beheaded in the Mill called the Foundation, and left five others have been lit, the imprisoned Vilaseca, having Don Juan Azua gone for one hundred and fifty men who went to Azua Bani land, which is the headquarters of south, and the northern part is Santiago, where nine men hai troop, and our most three thousand.
embarked the 25 th the French troops, which consisted of five hundred and five men, who were not really men without Anjel, because they were not seen in the time they were here a difference, not only us, but even each other. All boys were chosen. The oldest would be thirty years. They were to see how serving in the guards, did not sleep as they did was put the elbow on the stage, and when the sentry missed who live, and were with their rifles in their hands. The guards did not speak to anyone, and patrols as well.
the first day of March, the guards relieved Conde, Viva (Bivouac / ndv) and San Diego, with the French troops with a lot of monkey. The Commander of Jaina, who was called Marqui, the black and Jaina would not surrender by saying that the French had no word, and that he (Marqui / NDV) was very whips buttocks, and so determined to die, and and he was summoned with all the wit to make a maniel (a rebel camp / ndv) with more than 300 blacks who were in Jaina, and plenty of ammunition, but the general Cleversot Juan Felipe called and told that if they were in good faith or not to determine, asked him what was in the particular. Then the general Cleversot told him to bring a prisoner Marqui.
At the time, would like noon, marched Juan Felipe, along with Ali (Pablo Ali / ndv) (15) and a white officer and four of the prisoner entered burns t Marqui said. This was the day 4, and 6 out blacks and mulattos who were prisoners of Ribo (general Rigaud / ndv) (16) fifty feel, to relieve the Jaina, which consisted of more than three hundred. Ribó those who have been admitted because Ribó came in the fleet.
Day 7 in the evening, at eight she killed two of Toussaint's black, so as to forestall any attack that might happen, and that was very dangerous to be verified was essential to the general Kerversaut provinces take the most effective, as it deems appropriate, as were having deliberated on that immediately put under arms all its troops and leave a very large patrols, which were in faction all night, until six in the morning the next day.
On day 8, at four in the afternoon, left the army of Toussaint garrisoned this place, which consisted of fifteen hundred negroes, more or less. It was so much left that afternoon, and part of the night, which ended last La Isabela, as they carried the order to walk eight languages. Those left very happy with the reason that he is relieved every one Portuguese soldier and every officer with two. Colonel Juan Felipe paid him three thousand and five hundred dollars. The general remained at the Pole, however, until the tenth day, which sailed the ship that was to lead to the latter's wife, to John Philip, the musicians of his battalion and black females who were accommodated with their officers (17).
With the reason that the white troops had to march two San Juan, as there is established the General Headquarters, the day 14 inspection was a magazine in the Plaza de Armas.
Day 13. (18) ".-

Among the resources of Toussaint's excesses committed in the city of Santo Domingo excels the incident between him and proud and Dominga Núñez, immortalized in the beautiful romance of Gaston F. Deligne, Intervention, 1801, (in our book The Dominican romanceso, CT 1943), and the comely tradition stops Lady Toussaint, Dr. Ml. Js. Troncoso de la Concha, (in his book stories Dominican Republic, Santiago, 1946).
(2) It alludes to the official formalities of the surrender of the town of Toussaint, and panic that infused his presence. Failure to do so, the defenseless population would have been beheaded, which was proposed by the barbarian invaders. The document below explains the case, with curious details.
(3) The Portuguese, according to Sanchez Valverde, (Idea of \u200b\u200bthe value of the English Island, Madrid, 1785), is a "piece of gold bellisimo of the Portuguese, with the stamp of this nation, whose weight and value something intrinsic exceeds five dollars. "
(4) In the book of baptisms, N º. 26, page 36 (years 1798-1802), the Cathedral of Santo Domingo, there is this note from Dr. Agustin Madrigal: "Sto. Sunday twenty-six January 1800 and a delivery of the capital of the Republic after noon. " The invasion of Toussaint was the cause of the emigration of large numbers of Dominican families, the most enlightened. The following data are from the National Archives in Bogota (Mss. History, Vol IV, pages 97-100): the Fr. Pedro Sánchez Valverde, because of the cession to France moved in 1796, in Santiago de los Caballeros to Santo Domingo. Sánchez Valverde was rector in Santiago and Chaplain of the Royal Military Hospital San Nicolás de la Ciudad de Santo Domingo. From here, accompanied by his family and a "large number of people emigrated" because of the invasion of Toussaint, went to Maracaibo on 25 January 1800.
On 26 the ship was seized by a British corvette, stripped of his slaves, jewels, money, furniture and even clothing. He arrived in Maracaibo on 24 February 1800. There he obtained a passport to go to Cartagena on November 21, 1801. In Cartagena, 18 December 1801, grant to him and asked migrants who accompanied him, among whom were: Manuel Valverde (son of that Priest) and Stephen, with Doña Manuela Tamariz, added: Doña Petrona Sanchez Valverde widow Doña Luisa and Queen Beatriz Fernandez, his daughter Maria Altagracia Fernández, granddaughter first, and Maria Concepcion, added: Doña María Dolores Fernández, widow, Dona Ana, Don Meliton and Don Manuel María Valverde, children of the first. Free servants: Michelle, Maria, Christopher. Gregory and Seferina. Independent Aggregates: Gertrude, Bruno and Mary his daughter. In Cartagena, the March 9, 1801.
Rafael Aragon and Juan de Mata Bernal, pharmacist and practitioner, respectively, used in the Military Hospital of Santo Domingo, requesting that they be helped to be transferred to Havana. Juan Antonio Castillo, also emigrated from Santo Domingo due to the invasion of Toussaint, asks to be paid salaries for their services on the Island, where he was Officer of the Tobacco Factory in Santiago de los Caballeros, then Mayor Guard Bayajá Square. Santo Domingo went to Maracaibo and then on to Cartagena.
In the house of Doña Teresa Morilla, emigrated in Cartagena, also resided in May 1802, emigrated Gertrudis del Rosario and a daughter. In a pathetic account of the vicissitudes suffered by migrants in 1801, it appears that Joseph and Antonia de Castro, emigrated from the island, make this not having been assisted with the allocation made for these or Cartagena Maracaibo and beg or send them to provide assistance to survive in Cartagena. Both were heads of families residing there.
Because of "unexpected delivery of the black tusen Island, which was supposed general of the French Republic, they were obliged to emigrate. On February 17, 1801 came from Santo Domingo to Maracaibo, where they arrived on 24. After ten months of extreme need in Maracaibo determined move to Cuba. They embarked there on 1 December and arrived in Cartagena on 13. Firman exhibition in Cartagena, July 30, 1802.
